Santa Clara, CA: A $158 million settlement has been reached in a consumer fraud class action lawsuit pending against Verizon Wireless and Sprint Corporation alleging the companies were involved in phone cramming.
The lawsuit alleged customers' phone bills contained charges for third-parties services such as texts for sports scores, horoscopes, and/or trivia, that were never requested or authorized.
The settlement remains to be finalized but if approved, eligible class members could receive anything from $7.00 to a full refund for all unauthorized charges.
Sprint and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau submitted a proposed settlement under which the carrier agreed to set aside $50 million to compensate customers. Sprint did not admit to the allegations made in the CFPB' complaint.
Under the terms of the agreements, Sprint will pay a total of $68 million and Verizon $90 million. Most of the money will be going back to the carriers' customers, according to a statement made by New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman.

I remember this settlement.I was happy when i first read about it,Because i would call Virizon over and over and they said they couldn't do anything. It made me very mad because it was there bill and i was getting charged for something else that had nothing to do with me.I remember it was like 15.00 a month for quite some time. Then i sighn up for this settlement, and when i get my check it was less than one payment when there were many.It was a slap in the face.Someone was making money off me and noone would do anything about it.You would think Verizon would want to look into it seeing how it was on there bills.Someone scammed me pretty good and the settlement was a joke from what i had paid in to it.Very unhappy about this.It wasn't much of a settlement to me.Lets make them feel better taking care of the bill but not giving the money back to the people who put into it Or should i say who had it stolen from them..I want my money back. Not less than one of my payments..Gee this is so very wrong in so many ways.
