Matrixx Corp.
January 24 2006
More than 300 people filed a class action lawsuit against the markers of the cold remedy Zicam alleging the zinc nasal spray caused a loss of sense of smell and taste. Millions of people have used the zinc gluconate nasal spray without problems, but hundreds of other users felt an intense burning sensation in their nose, and subsequently lost their sense of smell and/or taste. Only 30% of the latter had some sense of smell return. Matrixx has agreed to pay a $12 million class action settlement. (Jan-23-06)

I have the same problem; still have 1 zicam swab left from a year ago and will not use it. Also used zicam tablets with a cold. LOst sense of taste and smell. Dr. ENT said not to use zicam for that very reason. Not sure what to do legally if anything is available

I used the Zicam nasal swabs about 2 months ago and since that have damaged sense of small and taste. I can occasionally taste or smell but it is inconsistent. I can still smell the Zicam at least once a day in my nostrils. When I was using Zicam my nostrils did burn. But I thought that was normal. I even think that it may have gotten down in stomach cause i experienced allot of irritation and it wasn't from food cause I wasn't that hungry when I had the cold.
The Law firm of Parker Waichman who had the info about the lawsuits against Zicam said they couldn't represent me but didn't disclose why they couldn't.
I really would like to have something done on my behalf because I was unaware of the side effects and now it will and has affected my life in many ways.
I am not employed at this time so I have no income to pay for representation in this matter.
