Hispanic and female employees at Los Alamos National Laboratory filed two class action lawsuits against the university alleging job discrimination. The lawsuits were filed on behalf of female and Hispanic employees who worked at the lab between December 2000 and the present. The lawsuit filed by Hispanic employees claimed violations of federal and California state civil right laws and the federal Equal Pay Act. The lawsuit filed by female workers alleged violations of the Equal Pay Act and breach of contract. The University of California does not admit any liability, but has agreed to pay a $12 million consolidated class action settlement. (May-20-06)
