The Academy of Court Reporting has agreed to a settlement of $7.8 million which could end the class action filed against it.
The suit alleges that the Clawson campus of the Ohio-based school promised its students associate's degrees, something it is not allowed to do under Michigan law, where the campus is located.
U.S. District Judge David Lawson approved the settlement Tuesday in Detroit. At least 1,281 students could receive a check, the size of which would be based on how much they paid for their classes.

I attended the Academy of Court Reporting in Cleveland, Ohio 2004-2006. I graduated but was never able to find a job as no one would accept my degree. I moved out of state and my degree was just a wasted piece of paper. I now see that there is a class action lawsuit. My credit has been ruined for years because of this. How do I add my name to this lawsuit and get this removed from my credit?

I too need to be added to this lawsuit and contacted. My credit greatly suffered. I paid back 38 of my 40k fees only to walk across the stage in 08, receive and empty envelope with the PROMISE of correctednspelling of my name. Only to find that they were not accredited, they lied and said I did not take my exit exam (when I absolutely did with Todd) and I still have them on my credit report. I went to every class did all work to get an empty envelope and still no transcripts. Everything about this school is a headache and a major struggle. So pitiful!!!!!

I also when went the Academy of Court reporting and was told I would have to go to Ohio to complete my degree. I have student debt, no degree and no transcript. Which probably won't transfer anyway.

I too have had my credit ruined due to the fraudulent and schemes of The Academy of Court Reporting. First of all, who gives federal funding to a school of which is not accredited. Second, there should be measures in place that protect consumers from a school that claimed and projected in writing high paying jobs and continuing job placement after you receive your Associates Degree. The lies that were told me still effects us all. To settle a class action suit with complaint 1and 8 removed is crazy. We all need to call our congressmen and women and complain not only on the phone but in writing about our peril. Let's stand up for ourselves and fight this out. Are you ready to win? We have to collectively go through this storm together.

I attended and graduated in 2007 at the Cleveland campus. I paid off close to 20k in student loan debt. I was lied to and told my credits would transfer to Tiffin University. I haven't found a place to transfer credits.

The instructor and the admissions counselor said over and over. We are an accredited school. Before I applied for student loads for the first time those words were used. That should have been my red flag, but it wasn't. They were in the process of being sued before I was recruited to attend. The commercials on television advertising being the only accredited court reporting school in MI helped this scam take root. I enrolled in Clawson in 2008. I was told by the recruiter that I could obtain an associate's degree in court reporting in 2 years. I owe over $20,000 in student loans for a degree that was unobtainable. I had no knowledge about a class action lawsuit upon enrolling there. I had a child in February 2009 and stopped attending around May of that year. The school still received monies from grants although, I was no longer a student. If I only attended 2 semesters, there is no way I should owe $20,000. They offered us the chance to finish our degrees in OH. There was no way I could uproot my family to do that. This school scammed me out of my time and the government out of money I have to pay back.

I attended Academy for Court Reporting and was in the Healthcare program. I owe student loans and have debt for credits I can not transfer. I have at least 40 credits and I am now going back to school realizing I have to take simple courses over that I have already taken. This is unfortunate and I could have been done with school. I also still have to pay back these loans I took out. How is this possible and who has a lawsuit because I need to be added to this list of pissed off people yall scammed. I attended the Academy of Court Reporting as well, racked up more tthan $50,000 in debt and I have no job from it's Paralegal Legal Secretary program. I was supposed to have an Associate Degree but to this day the degree is not worth the paper that's it's printed on.

I attended the Academy of Court Reporting, graduated in 2006. I was promised so many things at this loan shark school and nothing. I have a worthless degree which caused me to go back to school to better myself and my future. If someone contacts me, have paper and pen. Can you really help?

I too attended the Academy of Court Reporting, for the paralegal certificate program, I was not told the the credits were not transferable
Nor did I know that it was not an accredited school
I only had 1 more quarter to complete, then found out the school closed, I have been doing all I can to locate my transcript, I still have not been successful with that
While trying to see how to find some way to get my transcript, I came across this class action law suit, I also have racked up debt for the school fees to attend Academy
of Court Reporting , and I feel that I am entitled to receive payment for the harm done to me.
I need this debt to be eliminated, so I can be made right again
I put a lot of time into my program, only to realize I wasted my time, and incurred much debt

I too have attended the academy of court reporting from 2009 to 2011 and thought I had an accredited degree. I went on ahead and tried to further my education by going to Cleveland State University and they told me that none of my credits transferred over and that basically, I would be starting over. What a waste of time and money. I have no more loan money, because of that school. Now I have to either pay out of pocket, receive scholarships or grants to finish my education. They need to pay for their lies...

I attend this school for almost 3 years and left with nothing more than 20k in debt. None of the credits are transferable and they have made it impossible to get a copy of transcripts. I was completely mislead by this school. Please tell me if there is anything I can do to take action against them at this point. I attend 2002-2005
