Labrador City, Canada: (Apr-25-07) Hundreds of Labrador City women filed a class action lawsuit against the Capt. William Jackman Memorial Hospital after they were exposed to tainted gynecological instruments. The women were informed in 2003 that they may have been exposed to infectious diseases while they underwent tests at the gynecological clinic. Health Labrador, the regional authority that manages the Labrador City hospital reached an agreement with the 327 women who were told they would need to be tested for diseases such as HIV and hepatitis A and C, agreeing to pay them $450 each. Their spouses would be entitled to a $100 payout each. Other terms of the settlement include publication, in a local paper, of changes in policy and procedure at the Jackman hospital.
