Jackson, MS: (Mar-19-07) Nineteen months after Hurricane Katrina hit Mississippi, State Farm policyholders in three coastal counties can have their cases reopened using a new team of adjusters. In a settlement reached with State Farm Insurance, as many as 35,000 homeowner and commercial claims will be reopened to Gulf Coast Residents and the insurer agreed to make a payout of $50 million. Insurance Commissioner George Dale worded out the deal after a proposed class action settlement for the 35,000 policyholders stalled, but final approval has been granted for the $50 million payout.
