Sony Computer Entertainment America

Boston, MA: (Jun-27-07) A class action lawsuit was filed against Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. (SCEA), alleging that the company had improperly failed to pay overtime wages to employees responsible for creating, producing, and copying images in video games. The suit was filed by Andrew Wilson in the San Mateo Superior Court.

In a settlement reached, Sony Computer Entertainment agreed to pay the class of current and former employees from an $8.5 million settlement fund. In addition, SCEA will reclassify class members with a job title of Associate Artist and Artist 1 as nonexempt employees under the wage and hour laws of California and the federal Fair Labor Standards Act. Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. denied the allegations in the lawsuit and admitted no liability or wrongdoing in reaching a settlement. [NEXT GENERATION: SONY OVERTIME]
