A class action lawsuit was filed against the foodservice supply store on behalf of 13,000 current and former employees. The class claimed that for a period of six years, Smart & Final failed to properly calculate overtime pay and failed to pay employees for all hours worked including meal and rest periods. "The proposed settlement is anticipated to be submitted for preliminary court approval on October 5, 2005. The company currently estimates that it will record a pre-tax charge of approximately $19 million." (Sep-14-05)
