The Indiana Civil Liberties Union filed a class action lawsuit against the city alleging violations of the federal Americans with Disabilities Act. The city of Richmond has accepted a timetable for making all of its sidewalks and intersections accessible to the disabled. Under the settlement, all sidewalks and curb ramps in the downtown area must meet federal standards by the end of this year. All sidewalks and curb ramps in the entire city must be in compliance by the end of 2015 as it will cost the city $5 million for the entire job. (Jun-16-05)
