Claims were filed against Sempra Energy and its utilities, Southern California Gas Co. and San Diego Gas & Electric in a class action lawsuit related to the Western U.S. energy crisis of 2000 - 2001. On January 4, 2006, San Diego Superior Court Judge Ronald Prager gave final approval of a settlement that Sempra Energy reported will cost the company, after taxes, approximately $350 million. Sempra and its utilities deny any wrongdoing. Sempra Energy, based in San Diego, is a Fortune 500 energy services holding company with 2005 revenues of $11.7 billion. The Sempra Energy companies' 14,000 employees serve more than 29 million consumers in the United States, Europe, Canada, Mexico, South America and Asia. (Jun-14-06)
