Rochester, NY: (Mar-13-07) Claims filed against Rochester Institute (RIT) of Technology by about 170 of its 2,800 employees, threatening a class action lawsuit, alleged that the institute violated the federal Fair Labor Standards Act when it came to overtime practices. At issue for the past several months has been overtime claims for hourly employees who were classified as being exempt from overtime privileges, stemming from a complaint filed by lead plaintiff, Jan Lighthouse, a former employee who worked in food service at RIT. RIT agreed to a settlement with the employees by paying about $2.5 million to resolve the issues.
