A $5.5 million settlement has been granted preliminary approval in the discrimination class action lawsuit filed on behalf of current and former employees who alleged that they were denied promotions because they were black. The suit was filed in 2001 and claimed that black managers, administrators, accountants and other white collar workers had more difficulty advancing at Sunoco than white workers with similar skills and experience.
