Burton, MI: (Aug-11-07) A class action lawsuit was brought against four corporations, Premark, Wilsonart, International Paper Co. and Pioneer Plastics, by plaintiffs in 14 states. The lawsuit claimed that the corporations engaged in price fixing. In a settlement reached, a court ordered the settlement amount be distributed to charities. The IMA Children's Recreation Fund received a donation of $71,016. Over six nonprofit organizations around the state benefited from the settlement; the IMA Children's Fund was chosen as the Flint-area recipient. Other agencies that received part of the settlement money were the Michigan March of Dimes, VFW Home for Children in Grand Rapids, Grand Rapids Veterans Home and the Capuchin Soup Kitchen in Detroit. The IMA Children's Recreation Fund, which is based in Burton, provides programs for children, including the Flint Junior Golf Association, Greater Flint baseball/softball commission, and after-school and summer programs.
