Detroit, MI: Preliminary approval of settlement in the defective automotive class action lawsuit pending against American Honda Motor Co., has been granted.
US District Judge Margaret M. Morrow granted the preliminary approval of the Honda Civic class action settlement on April 11, effectively halting allegations brought by US consumers that Honda knowingly sold Civic and Civic Hybrid models with a rear suspension defect.
If approved, the settlement provides for Honda to replace allegedly defective Honda Civic parts and prematurely worn tires. Additionally, consumers who have not already been reimbursed for out of pocket expenses would be.
The class consists of all US residents who currently own or lease, or previously owned or leased, a 2006 to 2007 Honda Civic or 2006 to 2008 Civic Hybrid with a VIN range of JHMFA3 85000001 – JHMFA385010456. A subclass of consumers who currently or formerly owned or leased a Honda Civic Si has also been certified. Class members will be notified by mail on or before August 9, 2013, according to court documents.
The lawsuit is entitled David J. Keegan et al. v. American Honda Motor Co. Inc. et al., Case No. 10-cv-09508, US. A Final Fairness Hearing is scheduled for October 2013.
