New Bedford, MA: A class action lawsuit was filed against the seafood processor for failing to pay immigrant workers overtime. The eight Salvadoran immigrants sometimes worked up to 55 hours per week at the fish-processing plant, but were not paid time and a half for the hours they worked over 40 as required by Massachusetts state law. The Massachusetts Coalition for Occupational Safety & Health worked with the Community Economic Development Center and other local immigrant advocacy groups to help the Pier Fish workers. Pier Fish has agreed to pay the eight workers a $108,000 class action settlement. (Nov-14-06)
