A settlement has been granted preliminary approval in the federal class action lawsuit filed on behalf of all PHA residents with children under the age of six. The suit was filed in 1991 alleging that the PHA violated federal regulations by failing to inspect for lead-based paint in public housing projects. Under the terms of settlement, the PHA will to remove lead paint hazards from at least 100 homes a year for the next 30 years. (Sep-18-03) [PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS]
