Knoxville, TN: (Jan-02-08) A class action lawsuit was brought against Diamond Pet Food products, alleging that the company produced substandard dog food, which resulted in several dogs being injured. Records show that in December 2005, Diamond Pet Foods issued a recall on some of their dog food products. The lawsuit stated that although the food was recalled, several consumers have not received a refund for the recalled food.
In a settlement reached, company spokespersons stated that the company has set up a settlement fund worth up to $3.1 million. The money will be used to pay consumers who purchased recalled Diamond Pet Food products, and compensate dog owners whose dogs were injured as a result of eating recalled Diamond Pet Food products. Diamond denies any wrongdoing and contends that they have not violated any laws. Officials stated that the settlement was reached to avoid the costs and risks of protracted litigation. [
