A class action lawsuit was filed against the city on behalf of inmates alleging a pattern of excessive force by jail guards. The city has agreed to pay a $2.2 million settlement to 22 plaintiffs for violent encounters with guards. Under the terms of the settlement, the city must install hundreds of video cameras in its 11 jails and improve training and accountability of guards to better control the use of force against inmates.
