San Francisco, CA: A two-year long legal battle has reached an end with Nvidia agreeing to a $2 million settlement of a defctive products class action.
Specifically, the lawsuit, initiated in 2008, alleged that NVIDIA was in breach of warranties and negligence stemming from faulty graphics cards. Some users with Dell, Hewlett-Packard or Apple computers claimed they experienced things such as no image on their screen, or just seeing random characters. Some people allege they had difficulty detecting wireless networks.
In the settlement, users who bought one of the affected computer models and experienced the symptoms can file for either a replacement of the chips, a replacement of the computer (though it has to be one of comparable value) or get reimbursed for any costs of repair. The reimbursements will be paid out from the $2 million settlement fund. NVIDIA will also pay $13 million in legal costs.
The settlement applies to various computer models bought between 2005 and 2009. A hearing to determine final approval is scheduled for December 10.
