Several freelance writers filed a class action lawsuit against the newspaper. The class claimed New York Times posted articles online or in databases that are in violation of copyright infringements. The writers claimed they should be compensated for the online distribution of editorial content. At $1,500 per registered copyright, the newspaper is looking at an $18 million settlement. (Mar-30-05)
