Several advertising companies filed a class action lawsuit against the print company regarding the alleged circulation scandal of the Chicago Sun-Times newspaper. In 2003, the paper admitted to overstating its circulation for eight years by as much as 50,000 copies a day. Hollinger has agreed to award the advertisers a $20 million class action settlement. $7.7 million in cash will go directly to the advertisers, $7.3 million will be awarded through free and discounted advertising, and up to $5.5 million will be spent on the plaintiff's legal costs.
