Evansville, IN: (Apr-05-07) Twenty-eight thousand Northwest Indiana homes that received junk mail from New Century Mortgage Co. in 2003 are eligible to receive class action settlements for the inconvenience. New Century Mortgage Co. was accused in a class action lawsuit of illegally obtaining credit reports of consumers to target them for vaguely described loans, violating the Fair Credit Reporting Act. New Century has been blamed in recent months for a record number of home foreclosures across the nation, which analysts say has negatively affected financial markets. In a settlement agreement reached, New Century will pay $300,000 to compensate the victims and their attorneys without admitting it violated the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
