Brattleboro, VT: The Pathfinder Motorcycle Club tried to file a class action lawsuit against Jamaica officials and the Windham County Sheriff's Department. The lawsuit was filed in US District Court and alleged the club's civil rights were violated when the town of Jamaica asked the sheriff's department to stop the club's annual rally in August 2004. Deputies told the participants they needed state-approved tires, goggles, helmets, directional signals, and license plates. The lawsuit filed alleged the bikers were lied to about those Vermont requirements and had to cancel the event.
US District Court Judge Garvan Murtha denied the motorcycle club class action status noting there was no information suggesting their lawyer was knowledgeable or experienced, either with civil rights litigation or class action practice. (Feb-08-07) [BRATTLEBORO REFORMER: MOTORCYCLE DENIED]
