Chicago, IL: (Jan-26-08) Several personal injury lawsuits and a class action suit were brought against Wisconsin-based Modine Manufacturing Co. of Racine, by some McHenry County residents, who claimed that the company caused environmental contamination, leading to brain cancers among many. The suit stated that among the residents, fourteen plaintiffs have brain cancer; seven others have non-malignant brain tumors and one has liver disease. The village of McCullom Lake is near Modine's plant, which makes condensers and evaporators. Sources close to the case stated that the company has agreed to settle 22 personal injury cases and a class action lawsuit filed over alleged groundwater contamination. Though specific terms of the settlement were not disclosed, sources stated that the class action payout would total $2 million.
