A $90 million dollar settlement has been approved in the class action lawsuit filed against MetLife Inc. The suit alleged that the company had discriminated on the basis of race when underwriting some of its life insurance policies from 1901 to 1972. The $90 million dollars will be paid to past policy holders or their beneficiaries, as well as $5 million dollars being paid to the United Negro College Fund, and $24 million paid in legal fees to plaintiff's attorneys.
