California brokers filed a class action lawsuit against the brokerage for unpaid overtime. The lawsuit claimed Merrill violated federal law by failing to pay overtime to brokers and violated California law by forcing brokers to pay overhead expenses, including salaries for secretaries. Merrill Lynch has agreed to pay the brokers a $37 million settlement. (Aug-14-05)
