Mount Holly, NJ: (Mar-23-07) A class action settlement was filed by 180 property owners whose homes or businesses were damaged by Rancocas Creek flooding in 2004 against Medford Lakes, Medford Township, and the Evesham Municipal Utilities Authority for three dams that failed or were damaged. The parties reached a partial settlement of $2.5 million approved by a Superior Court Judge. A single insurance fund agreed to pay $2.45 million of the settlement for the three public entities, a fourth settling party, will pay the other $50,000 for another dam. Property owners claimed the failure of dams during a heavy rainstorm from July 12 to July 13, 2004 flooded the creek with lake water and caused an estimated $25 million damage to homes and businesses from Medford to Lumberton and Evesham.
