Marietta, GA: (Mar-30-07) A legal dispute between Marietta employees and the city surrounded earnings paid to the city in 2002 by its former insurance carrier; Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield. The class action was settled with benefits for over 166 individuals employed at the city between 1990 and 2000. Anthem demutualized and was required to buy out policyholders. The rights to nearly $750,000 was settled, with each employee slotted to get between $10 and $1,344, depending on their length of employment and how much they contributed to an insurance plan. After legal fees, the city of Marietta is expected to retain about $500,000, which is restricted to being used for employee salaries and benefits.
