Prisoners booked into the Santa Fe County jail between January 2002 and the present were allegedly strip-searched and in so doing, had their constitutional rights violated. A class action federal lawsuit was filed on behalf of all prisoners in January 2005. Utah based Management and Training Inc., had operated the Santa Fe County Jail for several years. An $8.5 million settlement has been tentatively settled whereby Management and Training Inc. will pay $8 million and the county $500,000, to be shared by about 13,000 people who were booked into the jail from January 2002.
