Longshore workers filed a class action lawsuit over unpaid wages against the marine terminal operator. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of 12,000 California dockworkers employed as casual workers between April 1999 and June 2006. It claimed the terminal operator shortchanged pay from casual, or temporary, dockworkers either by docking them time worked or not paying them for travel time to work as required by law. The Pacific Maritime Association has agreed to pay a $12.9 million class action settlement. (Aug-29-06)
