Ford Motor Co.

The second largest U.S. automaker has agreed to settle a class action lawsuit for defective intake manifolds. Up to 2 million Mercury Grand Marquis, Lincoln Town Cars and Ford Crown Victorias are included in the consumer settlement. Car owners will receive at least $735 reimbursement for repairs made on faulty manifolds. Vehicle owners alleged that Ford installed plastic intake manifolds that were prone to cracking and caused coolant leaks on some 1996 to 2001 models. If every customer files a claim, the settlement could cost Ford as much as $375 million. (Jun-18-05) [FREE PRESS]

2002 mustang GT 4.6 SOHC manifold is disintegrating, crumbling, leaking everywhere!

My 2000 Grand Marquis LS developed an intake manifold crack and serious leak at the thermostat housing (and perhaps other areas). The housing goes direcltly onto the intake so there is no other remedy than replace the entire intake. Is there any possibility of getting help or is the settlement considered closed.
Thanks for any assistance you can give me.

At least I can AFFORD to be cheated on this one. When this happened to my 1997 Cougar XR7 back around 2002 (only had about 60K on odometer) I received little cooperation from Lincoln and Ford Shops and the part for some reason was a lot more expensive at Lincoln than it was Ford. Luckily I was able to repair it myself but I lost about $650 fixing it myself, took me about 2days. The tow cost me about $120. But the lawsuit took too long. I sold the car many years ago to a friend for his older son. A man did he mack that car.

I have a similar problem. And wondering if anybody has gotten any help on this issue? If it is worth pursuing this at all?

I bought this 2001 Crown Vic 5 years ago it had 82,000 miles on it. It was bought by a retired man who took care of it. no salt exposure. Now at 121,000 i have just put 800.00 into this to figure out what was going on and why I kept getting Cylinder ! code. Now Saturday after my mechanic kept it overnight so he could see what I was first thing in the morning. Running rough, stalling etc. Now the mechanic found the intake manifold leak right by the #1 Cylinder. I am unemployed, Guardian of my mother who lives with me and is getting physical therapy and other regular Dr's appointments. I am also in school. This car is my only transportation. and my unemployment doesn't even cover my mortgage. let alone the extra money I have already put into the car to fix the problem. Now the intake manifold. I hope Ford will cover the costs I have endured to try to figure out what the problem is.

I have a 99 lincoln town car purchased used....only 113,000 miles and started leaking antifreeze...come to find out there is a leaking manifold on it ford was replacing but that was a while back...now it will cost me over 800 dollars...this was part of a class action suit but they now say the time has run out....is there any way to get them to pay for this bad defect.

Mom's 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis LS plastic intake manifold cracked below the thermostat housing, causing antifreeze to leak when engine warmed up. It was repaired by a trusted local mechanic, by replacing the intake manifold with a Dorman aftermarket replacement that incorporates the required frontal aluminum piece. Mileage was about 148,000. Repair tickets and exact mileage are available. The intake should have been replaced by prior owners, when the recall was active. Any class action suit money left to cover her costs?

The vehicles listed are not the only ones with this problem. The manifold cracked on my 2004 Expedition in January 2015 at 123k at a cost of $1152 at my Ford dealer. Read the forums; seems to be a common problem.

I recently purchased a 2000 Lincoln town car, and it has a crack in the plastic intake manifold. My research shows me that there was a class action suit a decade ago for this very issue. Do I have any legal recourse here since the previous owner failed to get it replaced or due to the fact that ford knows it's defective? I'm low income on disability, so $700 to replace it isn't easy to come by.

Just inherited a 1998 Grand Marquis from my mother-in-law and the intake manifold is cracked in several places. Any chance of getting some kind of settlement to get this part replaced by a Ford dealer now? It has been determined that it is a defective part and should have been recalled at the time. I have spent $2000 dollars on this car already for parts and labor. Parts that should not have gone bad at this mileage. Front axle dropped off while I was driving which left me with no control of the vehicle. I'm out of money and patience with this car that cost a lot of money back in 1998. Any advice would be appreciated.
