A class action was filed seeking higher disability benefits for certain retired federal law enforcement officers and firefighters. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of a group of officers who retired on disability before reaching age 50 and before attaining 20 years of service. The Office of Personnel Management agreed to pay retroactive benefits to those who retired before 50 and after serving 20 years but said those who didn't attain 20 years of service weren't eligible for higher benefits. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit has dismissed the lawsuit. (Jul-26-05)
