David Geffen is a paralyzed attorney from Santa Monica. For three years he registered complaints with the courts alleging violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Finally in 2002, he was able to certify a class action lawsuit against the county claiming its facilities were not accessible for disabled people. The class action settlement requires approximately $10 million worth of cosmetic and structural changes to all the county's estimated 50 courthouses. Geffen received $250,000 in the settlement.
