In 1998, Daimler-Benz and Chrysler Corp. merged and became DaimlerChrysler. Chrysler shareholders filed a class action lawsuit claiming they were duped into approving the deal after executives from both companies portrayed it as a merger of equals. In 2003, a $300 million dollar settlement was reached in the consolidated class action lawsuit; the settlement has now been approved. DaimlerChrysler's insurance companies, led by ACE Ltd., will contribute $222 million. (Jan-04-07)
