Chicago, IL: (Feb-16-07) A class action lawsuit was filed against the Chicago Transit Authority by Tiffany Chancellor on behalf of all people who contended they had paid higher fares due to the short supply of Chicago Cards. Due to a shortage of transit cards and the hiked prices in 2005, thousands of customers were inconvenienced as they swarmed retail CTA sales outlets, trying to avoid paying the hike in the cash fare and the elimination of cash transfers on January 1, 2006. The CTA announced that it would pay refunds of about $200,000 to riders who were unable to obtain Chicago Cards.
