Columbia, MO: (Dec-17-07) The city of Columbia stands to receive $500,000 from a settlement with US Cellular, reached after a class action lawsuit was filed by more than 300 Missouri communities against wireless carriers. Records stated that the suit stemmed from local governments and wireless companies disagreeing whether cell phones should be taxed the same way land lines are. Wireless company officials claimed that they wanted their services considered different from traditional land line services. A settlement reached with AT&T recently, could have the city see almost a million in back taxes.
