A verdict has been reached in the class action lawsuit filed on behalf of thousands of gay men and lesbians. The suit alleged that the government discriminated against the survivors of same-sex couples by denying them benefits under the Canada Pension Plan if their partner died before Jan. 1, 1998. The Ontario Superior Court has ruled that the government must extend the benefits to the surviving partners, ruling that the government had discriminated against the plaintiffs.
