A class action lawsuit was filed against the German drug maker on behalf of unions, employers and health plans for money spent on the recalled cholesterol drug Baycol. Bayer recalled Baycol in 2001 after it was allegedly linked to more than 100 deaths. Major health insurers, employers and unions purchased Baycol before the recall that could not be used after the drug had been withdrawn from the market. A Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas Judge has approved a nationwide class action settlement which may provide class members with as much as $10 million. (Mar-17-06)
