Charlotte, NC: (Feb-12-07) The employees of Alcoa Badin Works filed a class action lawsuit against the company accusing it of lack of job promotions, apprentice program denials, and unpaid overtime. The lawsuit also alleged African American employees were being laid off in greater numbers than their white co-workers. In October 2004, black protesters picketed Alcoa's Badin Works plant and caused roughly $10 million in damages. The United Steelworkers Local that represented Alcoa employees said that the lawsuit did not qualify as a class action. The case saw an out of court settlement, with the company paying the employees $30 million in restitution.
