Oakland, CA: (Feb-28-07) A class action lawsuit was filed against several counties in California, Florida, and New Mexico over strip-search policies. The class claimed that the strip searches were illegal under the Fourth Amendment to the US Constitution, which guarantees people the right to privacy. It alleged that all those who had been strip searched in groups were arrested for minor crimes and that it violated their privacy. Alameda County settled with a pay out of $6.2 million without admitting to any wrongdoing; the county stated that the Sheriff's Department has changed its policies to address the issues raised in the suit.

How does one receive the payment from this lawsuit? I stood in line for hours to submit my claim and never received anything. Alameda county has apparently paid out on this civil rights violation case.
