Ashwaubenon, CA: A $21 million preliminary settlement has been reached in a wage and hour class action pending against Schneider Logistics Inc. The lawsuit was brought by workers in California who allege they were underpaid while working at warehouses providing services for Walmart.
Specifically, workers at Walmart' Mira Loma distribution center, run by Schneider Logistics, said they were not paid the minimum required by law, and that they worked in unsafe conditions.
The lawsuit, entitled Carrillo vs. Schneider Logistics et al, was filed in 2011, and in 2013 Walmart was added as a defendant. According to reports, it was the first time Walmart was made to assume "joint employer"status. However, Walmart was not required to participate in the settlement.
The proposed settlement agreement was filed in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles on May 13, and covers about 1,800 workers at three warehouses. The agreement must be approved by the court.
