Class action status is being sought in a lawsuit filed against businessperson Ghassem (Kevin) Yousefion, as well as two contractors he hired, and the local mayor and city inspector. The suit was filed on behalf an estimated 5,000 people who own or rent property on St. Francois Xavier Lake, and was filed in regards to an alleged potential "ecological disaster" caused by Yousefion due to actions he took in initiating construction of a luxurious spa.
The suit claims that Yousefion drained a small wetland lake on his land near the Laurentian town of Morin Heights, and then dumped the old water and its contents into St. Francois Xavier Lake, less than a kilometre away. It further claims that these actions, broke beaver dams, ravaged an ecosystem developed over thousands of years, and tainted the water of St. Francois Xavier and several other lakes.
