A lawsuit seeking class action status has been filed against Whirlpool Corporation asserting certain claims in connection with alleged defective refrigerators.
The suit alleges that the icemakers in the side-by-side refrigerators do not work and the temperature controls fluctuate, which leads to flooding and water and property damage to the home. The defect reduces the effectiveness and performance of the refrigerators and renders them unable to perform the ordinary purposes for which they are used. To date, however, Whirlpool allegedly has failed to institute a program to repair and,/or replace these refrigerators and has refused consumer requests to repair or replace the refrigerators and/or reimbuse consumers for damages when such refrigerators are outside the warranty period. Whirlpool is accused of knowing about the defect and failing to notify consumers of the risk of property damage.
The suit makes claims on behalf of all persons in the United States who purchased a side-by-side refrigerator manufactured by Whirlpool since 2000 and sold under the Whirlpool, Kitchen Aid and Roper brand names.

After about 6 months of purchase I had problems with the ice maker where water was accumulating in the bottom of the tray and the motor started making humming noise . The repairman said this was a known defect and replaced the tube with the same OEM tube that was on the ref . on questioning the repairman on why they would replace the tube with the OEM he replied that Whirlpool replaced the tube but later they went back to the OEM tube and he didn't know why they did this . I want the problem fixed and don't want a repairman coming out every 6 months replacing Tubes , etc.

I cannot leave my home or travel for fear of a power sag which requires that I unplug and plug the fridge when there is a power sag. I have loss hundreds dollars of frozen meat products and all other food products that become spoiled due the fridge not turning back on after a power sag or brownout. I have talked with the whirlpool people and they insist this is not a defect. But when I insist that my old fridge or many of the other models like GE, LG, etc. don't have this same problem, they have no comment.
