Rein Faces California Wage and Hour Class Action Lawsuit by Gyu-Kaku Restaurant Employees

- by

Los Angeles, CA: A wage and hour class action lawsuit has been filed against Reins International California Inc, a subsidiary of Reins International, which owns the Gyu-Kaku chain of restaurants. The lawsuit alleges the defendant failed to properly compensate its managers in training.

Specifically, the lawsuit claims that Reins misclassified its managers in training as exempt employeews who were paid a salary. The managers in training were tasked with learning every job at the restaurants. The lawsuit claims that the workers never performed managerial duties because another manager was always present.

Justin Kim, lead plaintiff in the complaint, claims specifically: failure to pay overtime, failure to allow meal periods, failure to allow rest periods, violations of Labor Code 226(a) and 203, and violation of Business Professions Code 17200.

Kim represents up to 99 trainee managers, who allege that over a four year period the defendant forced them to work through lunch breaks without pay, failed to pay wages on termination, to compensate for overtime and to keep adequate payroll records. The lawsuit seeks compensation from the defendant for all the wages and monies owed and penalties for violations of the California Labor Code.

The case is Justin Kim et al. v. Reins International California Inc et al., case number BC539194, in the Superior Court of California for the County of Los Angeles.

Justin Kim is represented by Eric B. Kingsley and Liane Katzenstein Ly of Kingsley & Kingsley APC.
