Los Angeles, CA: A consumer fraud class action lawsuit has been filed against Verde Energy USA alleging the company charges unfair rates, compared to the market rate, and that despite having a variable rate plan for electricity, it doesn't lower the rates when the market price drops.
Filed by Shane C. Roberts, the lawsuit alleges that customers are given a "teaser rate"when they sign up with Verde but when that rate expires customers are charged a month-to-month rate that is linked to the going market rate for wholesale power.
According to Roberts, Verde charges its customers up to as much as four times the underlying market rate. Specifically, in December, Verde charged its customers roughly 20 cents per kilowatt while the market wholesale price was about 4 cents per kilowatt: this is equivalent to 375 percent over the market value. In November, 2013, the price rose from about nine cents per kilowatt.
The lawsuit is seeking class action state and more than $5 million in damages plus court costs.
The plaintiff is represented by Robert A. Izard, Seth R. Klein and Nicole A. Veno of Izard Nobel, LLP in West Hartford, Conn. United States District Court for the District of Connecticut case number 3:15-cv-00312.

Verde Energy called my house on a recorded line and asked how i was doing and I said fine.. then they asked if I took care of the electric bill and I said no that my father does, they said thAnk you Courtney have a nice day and Imstopped them before they got off the phone cuz i wantedmto know hiw they knew my name and they would not answer me until the 3rd time imasked and they finally sad that they got my name from an online survey but i know they didnt because imnever filled an online survey out. Somim not happy whatso ever about them knowing my name when its personal information that the should not know considering i dont own this house and am fortunate enough for family to be helping me out right now. i want my name and my families wiped out and want to know whats going on and how they got my information cuz its illegal

I was mislead by Verde energy and their prices and switched to a community recommended provider. Verde just called me and tried to explain my current rate incorrect to me. This time I was more informed, which led me to look at my prior rate which was not inline with what was promised to me.
