A class action lawsuit has been filed in California against Uniform Code Council, Inc. on behalf of Consumer Advocates Rights Enforcement Society Inc. and San Joaquin County business #1 of a Kind Designs. The suit claims that the company has sent invoices demanding payment of fees in to thousands of businesses across the US in order for the businesses to continue using Uniform Product Codes (U.P.C. codes.) The suit claims that #1 of a Kind Designs paid Uniform $350 for the use of the identity code, and the company is now demanding an annual fee of $150 for continued use. The suit has been filed on behalf of all businesses who have received the invoices demanding payment.
