A class action lawsuit claims American Tax Relief pitched Internal Revenue Service settlement programs to its clients for hefty fees but they had no real chance of having debts reduced. Under the government's "offer-in-compromise" program, some taxpayers are meant to be able to reduce their debts if there is no likelihood they can ever pay the full amount. ATR had me fill out large amount of paper work and never did a thing to help my case. The tax officer that I was dealing with told me that they actually made it worse by stalling and giving them the run around.

I called to inquire about my IRS debt, I was told they could reduce my debt to as much as 10 cents on the dollar. They charged me $7500 then said they dropped me because I didn't return my paperwork to them on time. They refuse to refund any money. I am a disabled former Captain for American Airlines, they have caused me enormous financial harm and delay in handling my IRS problem. To reopen my case they want more money.
