Class action status has been granted to a lawsuit filed in 1998 against Stoneco Inc. on behalf of an estimated 16,000 people who live near the former asphalt plant in South Lorain. The suit alleges that the plaintiff's property values were collectively decreased by as much as $18 million dollars between 1990 and 1998 due to noise and air pollution caused by the plant.
