Recently many consumers have complained about bad reactions to herbal remedies. Consumers tend to believe that because a herbal remedy is "natural" that it is also harmless - but this is not necessarily the case. Mixing herbal products with other drugs can cause adverse effects.
St. John's Wort - a herb used to counteract mild depression, restlessness or nervousness, and to treat minor skin injuries - can allegedly dull the effect of other medications such as blood thinners and anti-transplant rejection drugs.
It is also alleged to cause problems with birth control pills, supressing their effectiveness and causing unwanted pregnancies.
Another very serious allegation claims that when St. John's Wort is taken while using blood-clotting medications, uncontrollable bleeding can occur.
Manufacturers and distributors have allegedly not warned the public about the dangers of St. John's Wort interfering with other drugs they are taking.
