Sony Music et al.
Class action status is being sought for a lawsuit filed against several record labels including Sony Music and Warner Music. The suit was filed by country music songwriter Paul Overstreet and alleges that the companies owe him part of the settlement they reached with online music company MP3.com. That suit was settled in 2000 with MP3.com agreeing to pay each major record company $20 million dollars to settle copyright infringement charges. Overstreet claims that the companies failed to share the profits they earned as a result of the settlement on his songs.
